Stewart Island Discovery Expeditions

Description

Stewart Island Discovery Expeditions

Discover the magic of New Zealand's third island, a place of rare beauty and solitude, on a six-day expedition with RealNZ. Stewart Island's densely forested hills and remote coastline of rocky outcrops and beautiful golden beaches make it a natural refuge for marine and bird life - and a wonderful destination for people who value nature and wild places! Your Discovery Expedition begins with a leisurely cruise across Foveaux Strait from Bluff to Stewart Island's eastern shoreline. You will visit Oban, Stewart Island's small township that is surrounded by the majestic Rakiura National Park. Upon boarding the Milford Wanderer, you'll spend six days cruising some of the most magical waters in New Zealand, venturing ashore regularly for guided walks, visits to historic sites, wildlife encounters and exploring the coastline up-close with some kayaking or by stabicraft. Or if you would prefer a more laid-back trip, there will be plenty of opportunities to relax on deck amidst the beauty that is the island. Your cruise also includes a visit to the renowned wildlife sanctuary of Ulva Island. Just because you're escaping civilisation doesn't mean you have to go without its comforts. Our vessel, the Milford Wanderer, is a modern motorised vessel with old-world charm that has been purpose built for navigating southern New Zealand. On board you will find great facilities, friendly crew, and outstanding food prepared by our on-board chef, as well as specialist nature guides who provide informative commentary and evening talks. We also have an open bridge policy, meaning you can chat with the skipper during the voyage! After recent refurbishment the Milford Wanderer offers warm, comfortable twin-share compartments and shared bathroom facilities with hot showers. We take up to 32 passengers per departure.
